European Mistletoe (Viscum album) is a parasitic plant that is prescribed to greater than 67% of human patients within European cancer clinics. A large clinical trial is currently enrolling at Johns Hopkins University, in Baltimore, MD, investigating the benefit of mistletoe in Stage IV cancer patients.

Commercially available products widely used in Europe are not approved for use by the FDA within the United States, therefore we currently use a compounded form of mistletoe, most similar to the commercially available product known as Helixor®. Mistletoe has many believed mechanisms of action for anticancer activity, with some including:

• Stimulating the immune system
• Improving quality of life
• Improving cancer- and treatment-related symptoms
• Reducing tumor size
• Slowing disease progression
